Emotionally triggered by the death of George Floyd, I began to recall several racial events experienced over my lifespan. I embarked upon a journey to share my story with others and to underscore the psychological impact of racial trauma on self-esteem and identity.
The racial encounters I share are familiar and relatable to African Americans, particularly Black women. The book offers a guide to healing from the damage of micro-aggressions by rewriting our narratives of racial injustices.
If you have been deeply impacted over the last few years after witnessing repeated racial injustices on people of color and found that it triggered your own memories of racial incidents, I invite you to get a copy of the book. Tell your story, begin to heal.
Poetically Black is an extension of my first book in that I share the struggles and triumphs of the African American experience but in poetry form. The book is divided into sections to illustrate the internal world of a community grappling with microaggressions, self-esteem, dignity, and mental wellness while navigating a double identity to find peace and healing.
